Deaths of father and son in Ballygawley house ‘not being treated as suspicious’

Police say the deaths of a father and son at a rural property near Ballygawley are not being treated as suspicious.

James Grimes, who was in his 80s, and his son Emmett, in his 50s, were found dead at a house on the Garvaghy Road on Tuesday evening, March 11.

Detectives launched an investigation and post-mortem examinations were carried out on both men within the last 24 hours.

In a statement today (Wednesday), a PSNI spokesperson said: “Detectives investigating the sudden deaths of two men in the Garvaghy area of Ballygawley on Tuesday, March 11 have confirmed that following the completion of post mortem examinations, the deaths are not being treated as suspicious.”

The double tragedy has stunned the local community.

Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew said: “The deaths of the two men in the Garvaghy Road area has shocked the local community.

“My thoughts are with the family and friends of those who have died at this difficult time.

“I would urge people not to speculate on the incident and allow police to carry out their full investigations.”
