Family-owned Dungannon agri business announce £6 million renewable energy investment

A family-owned Dungannon-based animal bedding, feeds and fuel provider have announced a £6 million investment in a renewable energy hub.

Capper Trading has been identified with providing bulk feed transportation services to the agricultural industry, operating over 40 LGV’s throughout the UK Ireland.

The vision and intuitiveness of Robert Capper and his team has enabled the company to successfully expand and diversify into other services i.e. manufacture of animal feeds, animal bedding, solid and liquid fuel.

And, their whopping multi-million pound investment will now see a new renewable energy hub developed at their Tamnamore facility.

The project will deliver onsite renewable electricity through solar PV generation and battery storage, significantly reducing our reliance on grid energy while supporting the phased transition of their transport fleet to electric vehicles.

The company say this development represents a “major milestone in our sustainability strategy, improving operational resilience, lowering carbon emissions, and strengthening the long-term future of manufacturing in our local community”.

The project has been supported through the Shared Island Sustainability Capital Grant under the Shared Island Enterprise Scheme, in partnership with InterTradeIreland and Enterprise Ireland.

Said a spokesperson for Capper Trading: “We would like to recognise the leadership and commitment of our Group General Manager, Matthew Steenson in progressing this initiative, together with the specialist consultants and project partners Denver Willis, Andrew Wilson and Richard Collins whose expertise has been central to its delivery.

“We look forward to sharing further updates as the renewable energy hub moves into implementation.”
