The former site of Lisfearty Primary School in Dungannon has entered the property market offering a “rare opportunity”, “prime” for refurbishment.
The building had previously been home to primary one to seven pupils in the rural Clonaneese area – on the outskirts of Aughnacloy and just eight miles from Dungannon – until it was recommended for closure by the Education Authority in 2019.
Sadly, like many rural country schools, Lisfearty PS had suffered years of dwindling enrolments and according to a Tyrone Courier report in 2019, this lead to the run up of a three year loss totalling over £400,000.
The lands and premises of the former primary school are now for sale as a “refurbishment/development opportunity” at a £70,000 price point.
It is understood that the building has been vacant since the school’s closure in 2019 and many remnants of its time as a centre of education remain including an assortment of brightly coloured classroom chairs, coat hooks, writing desks, blackboards and projector screens.
Listed by property agent, Lisney the property is described as occupying a “rectangle site of circa 0.8 acres”.
The site comprises the main former school building which is extended by a semi-permanent building to the rear alongside a standalone mobile classroom and a shelter.
The land surrounding the former school building boasts a “sloped grass football pitch and a tarmac playground”.
The site may present a development opportunity but this would be subject to planning permission.
