Several streets in Dungannon have been cordoned off this morning (Monday, January 27) after police arrested a man following reports of a firearm.
The 46 year old man has been arrested following reports of a man with a firearm early this morning.
At around 5.30am a taxi driver reported that a man armed with what was described as a handgun, had pointed the weapon at his vehicle and then drove off.
Police located a suspect on Northland Row a short time later. However, a weapon was not recovered.
Inspector Long said: “We are currently holding a scene in the town centre and we are carrying out searches in order to establish if a weapon has been dumped in the vicinity.
“If anyone should locate what they believe to be a firearm, please do not touch it and contact police immediately.”
DUP Councillor Clement Cutherbertson confirmed that police have closed off access to Perry Street Pay & Display carpark and the Church Lane area.
The councillor also confirmed that several businesses and services have been impacted as a result.

In a statement, Vineyard Church said: “Please note that, due to an ongoing police operation in the Perry Street Carpark we are unable to open our warmbank today. We hope to open tomorrow, 28th at 9am.”
