A forfeiture application for cash seized from three people – two from Tyrone and one from Armagh – which is believed to have been obtained through crime has been adjourned until next year.
Colleen McConville from Crossnenagh Road, Keady along with husband and wife Karl and Nicola Heron from Fairhill Grove, Cookstown all had properties searched on April 24, 2021.
£12,420 was seized in McConville’s home while £20,000 was seized from a property associated with the Herons’ at Crancussy Road, Cookstown.
Counsel on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs told Dungannon Magistrates’ Court, there are currently ongoing criminal proceedings in the background, so while there is an application for forfeiture, an adjournment was also sought “pending resolution of the criminal proceedings”.
It was contended once the criminal proceedings have concluded matters around potential forfeiture will be in a clearer position.
The nature of the criminal proceedings are unclear nor how the three defendants may be involved.
Lawyers acting for the three defendants confirmed the adjournment was not objected to.
District Judge Michael Ranaghan agreed to adjourn the matter until January when the case status will be reviewed.
Meanwhile HMRC were asked to clarify the nature of the criminal proceedings in question and while this is being looked at there has been no response at the time of publishing.
