A man accused of the murder of 11-month-old Hunter McGleenon in Keady last year will face Crown Court proceedings in December.
Sharyar Ali, 32, of Westerna Terrace in Co Monaghan, appeared charged with murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday.
He is currently on remand for theses charges which relate to the murder of baby Hunter Patrick McGleenon, who died as a result of injuries to his head and abdomen, on November 26 last year.
Previous courts have heard claims that Ali “crossed the border a number of times” while he was caring for the young child.
Appearing via videolink from Maghaberry Prison, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence barrister Aaron Thompson made no contrary submissions.
District Judge Eamonn King said that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
The defendant was remanded in custody to appear before Newry Crown Court on December 8 for arraignment.
