There was plenty of laughter and larking about at the official openings of the newly refurbished Maghery and Donacloney play parks last week.
A total of £200,000 was invested into the refurbishment of the play areas following a period of consultation with the local communities and schools in each area.
Catering for children and young people up to the age of 14, each park has a mixture of equipment including junior and senior swings, an inclusive roundabout, basket and cradle swing, as well as springers and spinners, and play panels.
In celebration of the hard work that enabled these play parks in the capital play development programme to come to fruition, Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, councillor Julie Flaherty was in attendance to cut the ribbon.
“Despite the chilly weather we have had a brilliant day launching these two fantastic play parks, which mark the tenth and eleventh play parks across the borough refurbished by council,” she remarked.
Adding: “Play is central to the lives of children and young people, and supports council’s 2020 vision to have a happy, healthy and connected community with appealing places for living, working and learning.”
Farrans were the lead contractor on the project with Garden Escapes as a subcontractor who are the specialist playground equipment company who supplied and installed the new equipment.
These parks form part of the £4.75m play strategy, which will see a number of parks across the borough being refurbished, alongside our commitment to non-fixed play, which is crucial to child development.
