The case against a man who allegedly battered a puppy to death with a hammer in Lurgan has been sent to the Crown Court next month.
The 23-year-old, from Lurgan, is charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a chihuahua crossbreed puppy, named Sparky, on February 3 earlier this year.
Kyle Keegan, of Gilpins Manor, appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ on Friday as the case was set to be arraigned at the Crown Court on November 8.
Defence barrister Barry McKenna stated that the preliminary inquiry papers offered no evidence with regards to previous allegations that the puppy had been placed in a microwave.
District Judge Bernie Kelly told the barrister that he shouldn’t “get too excited” as evidence could come by the time the case arrived at Crown Court.
She said: “I was shown a photo on Facebook before this came before me at court”.
Keegan was remanded in custody and the case will return at Craigavon Crown Court on November 8.
