A man who was reportedly “throwing himself in front of traffic” kicked a police officer in the groin and was disorderly when taken to Craigavon Area Hospital.
Ryan Shortt (22), of Carrickvale Manor, Lurgan, committed offences on Sunday, February 16 this year.
He appeared via video link from prison at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court and admitted charges of disorderly behaviour, assault on police and being ‘simple drunk’.
A prosecutor said that at 3.30pm on February 16 police were tasked to the Drumbeg area of Craigavon to a report of the defendant “throwing himself in front of traffic”.
Police noted the defendant was unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred and he had a “crusty white layer” around his mouth and appeared to be under the influence “of drugs or alcohol”.
He became “extremely aggressive” towards police. He kicked out and attempted to bite officers. He kicked an officer in the “groin area”.
The defendant was arrested and taken to Craigavon Area Hospital where he was “aggressive towards police and medical staff” and was swearing.
After getting medical attention he was taken to a police station.
A defence barrister accepted the facts were “unsavoury”.
Deputy District Judge Gerard Trainor said the defendant “seems to go into prison every so often”.
For the offences before Friday’s Court the defendant was given a two months prison term and was fined £100.
