New multi-million pound plans for Lurgan College – including a state-of-the-art sports hall and fitness suite – will be unveiled shortly.
Proposals have been drawn up for the development by the Education Authority.
And the project has seen the submission of a pre-application notice, which means the scheme falls within the ‘major’ category of development.
Little is known at this stage of which is exactly the project will entail.
At this stage, it has been revealed that the works would see the construction of a sports hall and fitness suite, alongside ‘ancillary accommodation’.
An existing teaching block on site would be demolished, while five modular classrooms would also be removed.
An extension would be built to another teaching block.
The development would see the addition of close to 20,000 sq ft of floorspace to overall school facilities.
At the same time, associated siteworks – including the resurfacing of the existing tennis court – would also be delivered.
Full details of what is expected will be unveiled at a public consultation event in Lurgan College next week.
Feedback from that will then be used to shape an application seeking full planning permission which would be lodged with ABC Council to determine.
