Work is underway to bring an historic fountain in Lurgan Park back into operational use.
The cast-iron fountain was originally erected in 1888 in Lurgan town centre to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Jubilee.
It was moved to Lurgan Public Park in the mid 1920’s to make way for the war memorial.
Alliance Party councillor for Lurgan Peter Lavery said: “It will come as good news for many park users that this well-known feature will soon be working again to provide a new lease of life for this historic asset.
“It is the only Coalbrookdale fountain that is known to survive with its original lamp posts so it is important that it is maintained for future generations to enjoy.

“I understand that a new UV Treatment Plant has been installed in the below ground chamber of the fountain with a concrete plinth scheduled to be installed to allow mounting of a control panel within an enclosure.
“The work is expected to be fully completed this February and it will be great to see the water fountain in full flow come the spring and summer months, just as it did over a hundred years ago.”
