A new Co Armagh park run event for children is in the pipeline.
With the growing success of such events – including that staged at the Palace in Armagh – there are now plans for another at Lurgan Park.
But this will be geared specifically and exclusively for those in the four to 14 age bracket.
Junior Park Run is a series of 2k runs, held in areas of open space around the UK.
They are open to all, free and are safe and easy to take part in.
Funding for this project has been sourced from the Public Health Agency’s ‘Tackling Childhood Obesity’ programme.
Councillors – at their leisure committee meeting in Craigavon tonight (Monday) – will be asked to lend their support.
The weekly event will be run as a pilot project under partnership with an existing athletic club who use the site.
St Peter’s Athletic Club will deliver the event each Sunday morning and councillors have been asked – and are expected to approve – a request for the club to have use of a pavilion and stage the event at Lurgan Park each Sunday.
It is expected Junior Park Run will begin early in 2018.
The pilot project will then be reviewed after the first year to see how successful it is and if it should continue.
