Craigavon Courthouse

A woman has been remanded on strict bail after appearing in court on alleged child sexual charges.

Initially, reporting restrictions had been imposed banning publication of the woman’s identity, however, they have now been rescinded.

Lynsey Amanda Newell, with an address that cannot be published, faces a total of five charges in which it is alleged she sexually assaulted a child.

The 46-year-old is further accused of sexually communicating with the child for her own gratification as well as attempting to incite sexual communication.

Finally, it is alleged she made and was in possession of an indecent image of a child.

While no details surrounding the circumstances were disclosed, offending is alleged to have occurred on dates between August 1, 2023 and March 19 of this year.

A police officer aware of the facts of the case told Craigavon Magistrates’ Court the charges could be connected,

District Judge Michael Ranaghan set bail at £300 and ordered Newell to have no contact by any means with the child.

She is also to have no unsupervised contact with anyone aged under 18 and must abide by all safety plans implemented by Social Services.

The case will return to court on January 15.

It remains unclear why the reporting restriction was granted as the terms were not provided, however, it was later removed when queried by Press without the requirement for challenge.
