A teenager who was found with cannabis after police responded to a report of him lying on the ground on a Co Armagh street has been fined £250.
Court heard the 19-year-old had committed this offence whilst on bail and had to be taken to hospital where he spent days in ICU due to his condition.
Sam Magwood, 19, of Moss View, Waringstown pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Court heard that on March 29, at around 8pm, police were called to reports of a collapsed male on Union Street, Lurgan.
They arrived and spoke to the man in question, the defendant.
He informed the officers that he was out on court bail and was not to be intoxicated in public.
Magwood was subsequently arrested and taken to Lurgan Custody Suite.
Upon a search being conducted on the defendant police located cannabis resin in his right trouser pocket.
When interviewed, Magwood made full admissions claiming the drugs to be worth around £20.
Defence solicitor Pat Vernon stated: “He was found lying on the street, someone called the police over concerns about him.
“He immediately told police that he was in breach of court bail, he instructs he can’t remember anything about that night.”
He added: “He was that bad that following the drugs being found he had to be taken to Craigavon Area Hospital and he spent a few days in the ICU.”
Magwood was ordered to pay a fine of £250, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 10 weeks.
