A two-vehicle collision on the Plantation Road in Bleary on Wednesday evening has prompted further calls for urgent action.
Police were called to the scene shortly after 5pm and fortunately on this occasion there were no serious injuries.
In March 2019, two teenage girls, and man in his 50s, were taken to hospital as a result of a crash on the same stretch of road.
And again, on August 2022, a woman was hospitalised following a two-vehicle collision.
Upper Bann MLA, Eoin Tennyson, has once again called for a speed limit reduction on the road past the village of Bleary.
It is not the first time the Alliance MLA has made this request and he fears that collisions will continue to occur in the area unless proactive action is taken.
Mr Tennyson said: “Alliance has contacted DfI Roads asking them to take action urgently to progress a reduced speed limit for the Plantation Road past the village of Bleary. A reduced limit should cover the Bleary Road, Dunkirk Road, Calvertstown Road and Crowhill Road junctions.
“Numerous local residents have been in contact with Alliance over recent years who find it difficult to safely navigate from these road junctions onto the Plantation Road due to the undulating nature of the road combined with the national speed limit on the road making the situation more difficult.
“This is not the first time Alliance has asked for a speed limit reduction on the Plantation Road and I fear that the recent collision in this area will not be the last unless DfI takes a proactive approach to local road safety measures. Alliance representatives will continue to press DfI for progress on the road safety issue.”
