A Newry man who is accused of assaulting another male occasioning actual bodily harm will face Crown Court proceedings later this year.
It was heard that the 23-year-old is also alleged to have assaulted a constable in the execution of his duty on the same date.
Jonathon McEvoy, of Altmore Gardens, appeared charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault on police at the city’s Magistrates’ Court.
As the charges were read out, it was outlined that both of the alleged offences occurred on November 11, of last year.
Appearing via videolink from Maghaberry, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence barrister Conor Byrne made no contrary submissions.
District Judge Eamonn King said that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
McEvoy was remanded in custody, with bail being subject to a suitable address being proffered, to appear before Newry Crown Court on December 3 for arraignment.
