A Co Down man who tried to start a fight outside a bar has been ordered to pay a fine of £300.
Sentencing the 37-year-old, the district judge commented: “When the drink is in, the sense is out.”
Paul David Patterson, of Slievemartin Mews, Rostrevor, had pleas of guilty entered on his behalf to disorderly behaviour and resisting police at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Prosecution outlined that at 7pm, on July 25, police on patrol observed this defendant appearing to try to start a fight with other patrons outside the Corner Bar on The Square, Rostrevor.
He was advised by officers to walk away but then became verbally aggressive towards them; despite being warned about his behaviour he continued to shout and subsequently resisted being placed in the rear of a cell van.
Defence counsel stated: “He has nothing relevant on his record and nothing in the last six years. He had too much to drink and he acted foolishly.”
District Judge Eamon King commented “when the drink is in, the sense is out” as he ordered the defendant to pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
