A Newry man accused of causing grievous bodily harm to another will face Crown Court proceedings next month.
The 20-year-old appeared at the city’s Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.
Ryan Devlin, of Millbrook Villas, is charged with a single count of grievous bodily harm with intent.
As these charges were read, it was heard that the offence is alleged to have occurred between October 30 and November 2, of last year.
The defendant is accused of unlawfully and maliciously causing grievous bodily harm to a named male with intent.
Appearing in court, Devlin made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence barrister Kevin O’Hare made no contrary submissions.
Deputy District Judge Anne Marshall was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer and the defendant was released on continuing bail to appear before Newry Crown Court on April 16 for arraignment.
