Police in Newry and Mourne are urging people to be ‘good neighbours’ as the holiday period continues.
The request comes after an “unusually high number of sudden deaths” since Christmas.
While none of these have been suspicious, most were unexplained, which required investigation on behalf of the coroner.
Newry PSNI – in a public appeal – asked: “If you have a few minutes pop in and speak with any elderly or vulnerable neighbours, family or friends.
“Visiting them might just give them an opportunity to tell you they aren’t feeling 100% or for you to get a feel things just aren’t right and maybe get them some appropriate assistance.
“This may not stop folk passing away, but it could mean someone passing away in more comfortable surroundings rather than alone and not being found for a period of time.
“Be a good neighbour and look out for each other.”
