A woman in her 60’s will require surgery after a “disgraceful” hit-and-run in Newry last week.
Police have confirmed that they are investigated the incident which occurred in the Talbot Street area of the city at around 9.45am on October 15.
A female pedestrian was struck when crossing the road by a car which has resulted in serious injuries. This vehicle failed to stop.
SDLP Assembly Member Justin McNulty branded the hit-and-run “disgraceful”, claiming the lady who is in her 60’s required surgery.
The Newry & Armagh MLA commented: “To leave a person lying on the street without any care for their condition is nothing more than complete cowardice.
“The individual responsible for the hit-and-run, causing this injury and fleeing the scene needs to present themselves to the authorities without delay.
He added: “Equally, I would encourage anyone with any information which can lead to the identification and apprehension of the person responsible to bring it forward.”
In a PSNI appeal on social media, they wrote: “Were you in the area at the time? Can you help us identify the vehicle and driver? Maybe you have Dashcam footage that could help.
“We are particularly interested in the Talbot Street/Sandy Street area. Please contact police on 101 quoting ref 452 15/10/21.”
