A man who admitted to police at the roadside that he had been drinking prior to a collision has been disqualified from driving for 12 months.
The 29-year-old, who represented himself in court, spoke only to confirm his plea.
Dinis Ruskilis, of Dungormley Estate in Newtownhamilton, appeared charged with driving with excess alcohol at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Prosecution outlined that on October 10, at 7.50pm, police received a report of a two vehicle collision on Castleblayney Street in Newtownhamilton.
Officers attended the scene and spoke to both parties, one of whom was this defendant.
Ruskilis admitted to police that he had been drinking prior to the collision and a preliminary breath test was carried out resulting in a fail.
He was subsequently arrested and taken to custody, where an evidential sample was obtained giving a reading of 58mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
District Judge Eamonn King disqualified the defendant from driving for 12 months and ordered that he pay a fine of £200, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
