From Thursday, June 20, the Community Dental Service which ran one day a month from Newtownhamilton Health Centre will no longer operate.
All Community Dental clients who normally attend Newtownhamilton are being directly notified and have been given the option to attend Victoria House, Tower Hill, Armagh or John Mitchel Place in Newry for their treatment.
Explaining the change, Senior Community Dentist for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, Clare Fitzpatrick said: “Unfortunately as the clinic room at Newtownhamilton is up a steep flight of stairs without a lift, it is not very accessible for clients with mobility issues.
“Also, due to the risk of dizziness and potential of falling down the stairs, we have been unable to undertake any treatments which require sedation from this clinic.
“We would like to thank the team at Newtownhamilton Health Centre for accommodating the Dental Service and for their great support to our staff over the years.
“Staff are working with clients and carers to minimise any disruption from this change. Clients will benefit from the wider choice of appointments and greater range of treatments from Victoria House or John Mitchel Place and staff will also benefit from the support of more colleagues at these larger clinics.”
There will be no change to the service for those additional patients who receive home visits from the team.
