Plans have been submitted to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for the construction of a “new build church” in Aghorey, County Armagh.
The application – submitted in the name of James Hanna – requests permission to build the new church building as an “annexe” to the existing church hall within the grounds of the current car park.
The new two-storey church building would be constructed to replace the current Aghorey Presbyterian church building on Aghory Road near Portadown.
In its current format the existing church building and hall lie adjacent to one other – split by the Aghory Road.
If approved the plans would see a seamless amalgamation of the hall and church with the added provision of a “glazed link hall”, solar panels and an amended car parking layout.

The existing church and hall
The proposals also request amended access into the existing church hall to facilitate the “glazed link” between the two buildings.
On the ground floor, the new build church would contain a meeting house with 200 seats, a lobby, foyer, coffee dock, minister’s room, toilet, store and stairwell to the first floor to the rear.
The first floor would then boast a storage area, upper meeting house and upper foyer.
While the car parking layout would need to be amended following construction, the proposals stipulate that no spaces would be lost as a result.
The parking layout would comprise a total of 67 spaces to include four disabled parking bays.
The application is due to be advertised shortly.
