A Portadown couple have both been handed six penalty points after the wife allowed her husband to drive her uninsured car.
Jill McAlpine, 40, and 50-year-old Norman McAlpine, of Mahon Avenue, pleaded guilty to permitting and driving whilst uninsured at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
It was explained that Mr McAlpine was stopped by police on June 14 at around 6.45pm driving a Toyota Celica on the Armagh Road, Portadown, which was flagged as being uninsured.
He was spoken to by officers on College Mews where he stated his wife, Jill McAlpine, was the owner of the vehicle and that he was a registered driver.
Police checks showed that the policy of insurance had been cancelled on April 25 this year.
Norman McAlpine was cautioned but made no reply.
Police would later speak to Mrs McAlpine who also made no comment when cautioned.
The pair, who represented themselves in court, did not wish to say anything on their own behalf.
They were each handed six penalty points and ordered to pay a fine of £200, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
