Man drinking day before had no recollection of drunk and disorderly behaviour

Craigavon-Courthouse

A Co Armagh man who had been drinking from the previous day says he had no recollection of his behaviour which led to his arrest.

On Wednesday, Craigavon Magistrates’ Court heard that David Murray, 25, of Ennis Green in Lurgan, was arrested on March 18 outside a property in Portadown after police were called because of his behaviour.

When the officers arrived at the scene in Churchill Park, the defendant was stood outside acting in a drunk and aggressive manner.

He was asked to go home by police but declined their request.

Court then heard how he stood rigid and refused to remove for one of the officers.

The defence admitted that his client’s record was not a good one, adding that he had been drinking from St Patrick’s Day, the day before, and as a result “had no recollection of his behaviour”.

However, once he sobered up, he accepted what he had done.

Murray was fined £200 for disorderly behaviour as well as an offenders levy of £15. He was also fined £150 for resisting arrest.

It was also revealed that he was in breach of a conditional discharge made by Craigavon Courthouse on January 17. For this he was fined a further £150, which totalled the fines at £515.

District Judge Bernie Kelly said the fines would maybe give him “some incentive to get a job”.
