Plans in place to convert former Portadown restaurant into four apartments

"This is a change of use application, which proposes no built construction, rather utilising and modernising what is existing."

Bridge Street Portadown

The site of a former Chinese restaurant in Portadown town centre looks set to be converted into apartments.

The premises – at 69-73 Bridge Street, Edenderry – is subject to an application for a change of use.

Proposals have now been drawn up and lodged with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for consideration.

The property is a two-storey building with basement. The intention is that the basement would continue to be used for storage.

The ground and first floors, meanwhile, would be transformed to provide a total of four apartments, two at each level.

According to papers accompanying the application, work would be minimal.

It states: “This is a change of use application, which proposes no built construction, rather utilising and modernising what is existing.”

A total of six parking spaces would be provided.

The proposals will now be advertised shortly with a decision expected early in the New Year.
