Portadown man couldn’t produce his licence because he worked ’90 hours a week’

A Portuguese national caught speeding could not produce his licence as he was working “90 hours a week”.

Dario Jose, 45, of Charles Park, Portadown appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with speeding and two counts of failing to produce his licence and insurance.

The incident occurred on August 12, last year on the Northway, Portadown, the defendant was stopped by police driving an Alfa Romeo 60mph in a 40mph road.

Jose accepted he was speeding but was unable to produce his licence.

He was also unable to produce it within the seven days given by police.

Defence counsel stated Jose worked 90 hours a week and had tried to show his licence on the Saturday but the enquiry office was closed.

Court heard that the defendant had lived in Northern Ireland for 17 years and had previous for no insurance but not for speeding.

Deputy District Judge Austin Kennedy ordered Jose to pay a fine of £350 within 20 weeks and gave him four penalty points on his licence.

Along with the offender’s levy of £15.
