Twelve new social housing apartments will be built on the Garvaghy Road in Portadown.
The apartments are being built by South Ulster Housing Association and will be located close to Garvaghy Gardens in the town.
A public consultation will be held on Thursday, November 9 at 5pm in Portadown Town Hall after letters were sent to neighbouring homes.
SDLP’s Dolores Kelly has welcomed the plans from the Housing Association.
Ms Kelly said that the proposal builds on the success of SDLP Housing Ministers in bringing new homes to the area.
“The SDLP has been at the very front of efforts to deliver more social housing in the Garvaghy Road area.
“We’ve had success securing the Curran Street development and there’s no reason we can’t see more homes built here for families who want to live, work and set down roots in Portadown.
“This new development, which includes some wheelchair accessible apartments, is welcome and I would encourage local people to take advantage of the consultation period with South Ulster Housing.
“We will continue to press for more investment in this community. The best way to do that, of course, is with a local Housing Minister taking decisions in the interests of our communities.”
