A Portadown woman with a record for drink driving must wait until next month to learn her fate.
The district judge stated: “I can’t believe she has such an alcohol problem at that age.”
Cathy Gordon, 37, of Baltylum Meadows, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol in breath, using a vehicle without insurance, driving without a licence and failing to provide a specimen of breath.
Craigavon Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday that the defendant’s reading was 127mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath and that the offence was committed at around midday.
District Judge Bernie Kelly said: “She has a problem given her record and that reading.”
And she added: “I can’t believe she has such an alcohol problem at that age.”
The case was put back until December 5 for a pre-sentence report.
Defence solicitor Gabriel Ingram put forward a legal aid application with him stating Gordon was unemployed due to health difficulties.
But District Judge Kelly responded by asking: “What medical condition makes you drink copious amounts of alcohol other than alcoholism?”
She added: “If she is handed a prison sentence, be that suspended or time in custody, I will revisit your application.”
The case will return for sentencing on December 5.
