Construction has began on a new £1.5m homeless hostel in county Armagh.
County Tyrone contractor Lowry Construction Limited were awarded the contract following a drawn out tender process.
They began work for Choice Housing Ireland Limited on the construction of the hostel at Edward Street in Portadown just before the Easter break.
It is anticipated that work will take a period of 24 months to complete. That work includes the demolition of the existing property.
The cost of the works is put in the region of £1.5 million.
The existing facility was built in 1981.
A proposal to demolish and construct a new hostel was opposed by local residents when the plans were submitted almost three years ago in September 2014.
