Pre-Christmas roadworks planned for Armagh, Keady, Loughgall & Mountnorris

Four major roadworks schemes at a cost of £600,000 are due to get underway across Armagh City and District over the coming weeks.

The announcement was made by Roads Minister Danny Kennedy and will affect Armagh, Keady, Mountnorris and Loughgall.

The Minister says resurfacing of a total of almost 4kms will bring improvements to the Hamiltonsbawn Road, Armagh, Main Street in Mountnorris, the Ballygassey Road at Loughgall and St Patricks Street, Keady.

While the Department’s resource budget for activities such as routine maintenance is severely reduced, Mr Kennedy says funding for these schemes is from the capital budget for major projects and new road schemes, which is less affected by the current pressures.

Minister Kennedy said: “This is a significant investment in the Armagh area and the work will greatly improve the structural condition of all four roads.

“Local road users and visitors in the area will also benefit from the enhanced carriageway surfaces.

“All four schemes are scheduled for completion before Christmas.”

Preparatory work is already underway at St Patrick’s Street, Keady and on the Hamiltonsbawn Road, Armagh.

Improvements at Main Street, Mountnorris, and Ballygassey Road, Loughgall, are expected to begin on Thursday, November 27, and Monday, December 8, respectively.

All improvements are scheduled for completion by Saturday, December 13.

Access will be maintained for residents, businesses, churches and amenities.

TransportNI says it has planned the improvements to keep disruption to a minimum, however, to help ensure the safety of contractors and the public, well signposted traffic management measures and diversions will be in place.

As with all improvements of this type road users should expect some delays and are advised to consider alternative routes where possible and to allow additional time when travelling in the area.

This latest investment follows the recently completed improvements on the Monaghan Road, Middletown and the Gosford Road in Loughgilly.
