Ribbon cut on Forkhill Primary School

EDUCATION Minister, John O’Dowd, has officially opened new £1.8million premises for St Oliver Plunkett’s Primary School in Forkhill.

The school was announced for a new build in August 2010, with construction work completed in November 2012. The building can cater for up to 145 pupils.

Speaking as he cut a ribbon to open the school, the Minister said: “Established more than 150 years ago, St Oliver Plunkett’s Primary School has delivered high quality education to generations of local children and is part of the fabric of the community in Forkhill.

“This new school building represents an investment by my Department of around £1.8million and provides a brand new, state-of-the art learning environment for the pupils. The facilities mark the beginning of a proud new chapter in the history of St Oliver Plunkett’s.

“I commend the Governors, Principal and staff for their patience and hard work throughout the process of making the new building a reality. I also wish current and future pupils the very best for their learning careers and hope the surroundings help inspire them to achieve to their full potential.”
