Seventy jobs are to be created during the construction of a major upgrade to the Sainsburys store in Armagh.
The refurbishment is being carried out by contractor Montgomery Ltd and will entail adding new non-food lines and counters, including a pizza counter and improved bakery.
Sainsbury’s said the store in The Mall shopping centre in Armagh – which opened in 1998 – is one of a number of its 13 stores around Northern Ireland to receive a revamp. It will stay open during the work.
Store manager Andy Relf said: “We are looking forward in working in an exciting new store with a much more extensive offering.”
The Sainsburys upgrade comes as the planned Tesco store at the old Fane Valley site gathers path. Work on the multi-million pound development, which is to bring 250 jobs, is expected to get underway and be completed in 2015.
