A date for the trial of a member of Armagh’s All-Ireland winning team – accused of a number of sexual assault charges while on a team holiday in the US – has been agreed for the week following Halloween break
Aidan Nugent, from Cullyhanna Road, Newtownhamilton, is facing multiple sexual charges alleged to have occurred in Florida in November 17, 2024.
The 31-year-old is charged with seven counts of sexually assaulting a female and a single count of a more serious sexual assault involving penetration.
Offending is alleged to have occurred on November 17, 2024.
At a review hearing in Newry Crown Court on Wednesday prosecutor Fiona O’Kane requested a date for trial to be fixed for the week following Halloween recess on November 5.
Speaking to its relatively “high profile” nature, Ms O’Kane asserted a date this far in advance would ensure nothing could “bump” the case.
Nugent’s defence solicitor, Nicole Cadden, requested one week to consult counsel.
His Honour Judge Paul Ramsey allowed until April 15 for counsel to be consulted on the matter and a trail date was agreed for November 5.
