Victims of recent assaults required hospital treatment

Police are appealing for help after recent assaults – one in a Newry nightclub and the other outside licensed premises in Banbridge.

In both incidents, the victims required medical attention.

The most recent, in Newry, happened at around 1am last Thursday, July 23, in a nightclub on Trevor Hill.

Constable Caroline Bell said: “An 18-year-old male was walking from the bar to the dance floor when he was assaulted by another male. The injured party sustained facial injuries which required hospital treatment.

“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault or has information which may assist our enquiries. We can be contacted in Newry on 101, quoting ref: 96 230715.”

The second incident happened earlier in the month at Church Square in Banbridge.

Constable Liam Munt said: “Sometime between 12.30am and 12.45am on Sunday, July 12, a 24-year-old man was assaulted outside licensed premises by another male.

“This was an unprovoked attack and the man sustained injuries to his jaw which required medical treatment.

“The assailant is described as being around 5ft 10in tall with light brown hair. He was wearing a light blue shirt and jeans.

“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this assault or has information which may assist our investigation. We can be contacted in Banbridge on 101, quoting ref: 454 120715.”
