Dungannon’s famous Gables Bar and Restaurant has set its sight on opening guest accommodation on site.
The popular port of call on the Cookstown Road has drawn up plans to convert parts of the expansive premises to provide six new guest rooms.
Proposals have now been drawn up and lodged with Mid-Ulster District Council for consideration.
It would see major changes for the McKearney family-owned property, which currently consists of the Gables Restaurant and Torrent Bar, a traditional-style hostelry complete with open fire.
Popular with locals and guests alike, it has won multiple awards over the years.
And now it intends to add another string to its bow – by offering overnight accommodation.
The hope is to provide a total of six en-suite guest rooms.
This will be done with the “part conversion of existing licensed premises”.
One of those would be located on the ground floor, on what is currently a games room.
And the other five would be constructed at first floor level, on what is currently used as a function room, with upstairs bar service and toilets, and office accommodation.
Drawings indicate three rooms with double beds and three with double beds and additional single bed.
The actual application would not see an increase in staff levels.
But, if approved, would see a welcome boost to the local hospitality industry with additional choice in the tourism accommodation sector.
The application will now be advertised shortly.
