Last December’s Christmas car-parking promotion scheme in Dungannon and Magherafelt generated positive feedback – so much so that it will be reinstated during the 2024 festive season.
Motorists will only be charged a nominal 10p for the first three hours of parking in all pay and display car parks in Dungannon and Magherafelt from November 22 to January 4.
The normal tariff is 40p for one hour, with the exception of the central car park in Magherafelt where the first two hours are free, as part of a pilot scheme.
The proposed pricing arrangements are intended to boost town-centre trade and enhance dwell time at one of the busiest trading times of the year.
The 10p charge is designed to deter ‘all-day parkers’, as it is essential that car-parking spaces are available for visitors and shoppers.
In Dungannon, the reduced car-parking charge will apply in the following car parks: Ann Street East, Castle Hill, Perry Street West, Scotch Street North.
In Magherafelt, the reduced charge will apply in the following car parks: Rainey Street, Union Road and Central.
The discounted scheme will remain in place over six weeks, at a cost of £29,800 to the local authority. That cost does not include recalibration of machines, promotional signage and contract costs.
