The family of six-year-old Kourtney McCormick have thanked the Daisy Hill Hospital staff – among countless others – for fighting so hard to “keep her alive” and for the “beautiful” guard of honour as she was being whisked away for emergency care.
Little Kourtney was tragically killed in a road traffic collision in the Springfarm Heights area of Newry on June 21.
Giving their deepest gratitude to all those who have supported them in the aftermath of her tragic death, her family – in acknowledgement – have thanked first and foremost the woman who arrived on that heart-breaking scene.
“We would like to thank the lady who arrived at the scene and helped us take our little girl straight to Daisy Hill A&E Department,” they said. “You are our special angel, we are internally grateful to you.”
To the medical staff at both hospitals where Kourtney attended, they added: “We are profoundly grateful to all of the doctors and medical staff in Daisy Hill Hospital who fought so hard to keep our Kourtney alive, and also for the beautiful guard of honour they gave Kourtney in the room as she was being taken out to be rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the surgeons and medical staff of the ICU Department at the Royal Victoria Hospital for all their efforts to save Kourtney’s life. We will be forever grateful that yous gave us the chance to hold our baby and say goodbye to her in our arms.”
They continue: “We are very grateful for the help and support from the PSNI officers and the priest who supported us at both Daisy Hill and the Royal Victoria Hospital, and for their continued support through this horrific time.
“Words cannot adequately express our heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming support our family has received from Kourtney’s primary school, St. Patrick’s the Meadow, our entire community and all around the world.
“To our beautiful neighbours, family, and friends, and all the local businesses who supplied food at Kourtney’s wake, we never could have got through that first week without yous.
“To everyone who took part in Kourtney’s Mass Of The Angels, especially Canon Brown and The Choir Studio who made her mass so angelic, thank you.
“To all of Kourtney’s beautiful little friends, inside and outside of school, the loving support yous have shown us has been amazing and truly shows how much Kourtney meant to each and every one of yous. We truly appreciate it.
“Thank you to Paul McEvoy Funeral Directors for the dignified, compassionate, and professional manner in which they carried out the funeral arrangements. We could not have asked for anyone better to support us in giving our beautiful Kourtney the send off she deserved.
“As it is impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as a token of our sincere appreciation.”
A fundraising effort was lauched to support Kourtney’s devastated family in their grief.
Thanks to incredible local generosity, it has now surpassed £15,000.
Kourtney’s Month’s Mind Mass will be held on Saturday July 18, at 7.30pm in St. Brigid’s Chapel, Newry.
