Investigation launched after cars set alight outside south Armagh home

An investigation has been launched following an arson attack in south Armagh which left one person needing paramedic treatment at the scene.

The incident happened at a property on the Kingsmill Road in Whitecross shortly after 2am this morning (Thursday).

Two cars were set alight at the front of a two storey detached house.

The car fire also caused damage to the front of the house.

A spokesperson for the NI Fire and Rescue Service said three appliances attended the blaze – two from Newtownhamilton and one from Newry.

They confirmed that the NI Ambulance Service attended to to an occupant of the house.

The incident, which is believed to be “deliberate ignition”, took just under an hour to deal with.

Police confirmed they are investigating an arson attack.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Officers attended the scene along with colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who extinguished the blaze. Extensive damage was caused to the two cars.

Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who was in the area at the time and saw any suspicious activity, and in particular anyone who may have any dash-cam or other footage, is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 137 of 13/01/22.”
