A south Armagh man who hit a kerb, lost control and collided with six stationary vehicles after going through a fence has been handed five penalty points.
The 24-year-old’s barrister told court: “This was nothing more than a momentary lapse. There are no other aggravating features in this case.”
James Anthony McArdle, of Gullion View, Meigh pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention at the Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Prosecution outlined that on July 12, police received a report of a seven vehicle collision with minor damage on the Forkhill Road, Newry.
Officers established that the defendant’s vehicle had made contact with the nearside kerb, spun out of control and had collided with six stationary vehicles in a car park.
They spoke to McArdle, who had a small red abrasion to his head, and he stated the accident had been all his fault and he must have had a momentary lapse in concentration.
Defence barrister Kevin O’Hare said: “He was driving along when he met a left had bend. He clipped the kerb and the car actually went through a fence and collided with the stationary vehicles in the yard.
“This was nothing more than a momentary lapse. There are no other aggravating features in this case.”
McArdle was handed five penalty points and was ordered to pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 10 weeks.
