Oscar – the Labrador mix dumped and left for dead after being used for dog baiting – remains in a critical condition 48 hours after being found.
And according to The Doghouse Sanctuary in Banbridge, he is still not strong enough for surgery.
The story of Oscar’s horrific injuries has been making the headlines over the past two days.
Celebrity vet and animal campaigner Marc Abraham has also voiced his support and has been retweeting appeals made via the media for money to help fund Oscar’s urgent medical care bills.
The Doghouse Sanctuary provided an update this evening via social media.
“Oscar is on a very long road to recovery. His wounds are all still very raw and extremely sore, he is on pain relief, antibiotics and on a drip at present.
“His little body is all bruised and he is a skeleton.
“Oscar also has a very serious case of septicaemia.”
But they say that, on a slightly more positive note, Oscar has eaten “a few mouthfuls of chicken”.
The volunteers are appealing to people to continue to share details in the hope that donations will come in.
They revealed they were contacted on Sunday after the Labrador mix was found dumped.
They reported then: “This dog has been used as a bait dog for fighting and is the worst case of cruelty and injuries that our vet has witnessed in 24 years as a vet.”
The sanctuary posted graphic pictures, saying they felt the need to share and make them public to highlight poor Oscar’s suffering.
Oscar had been left in a condition similar to being in a coma.
The Doghouse Sanctuary is very grateful for the support and help to date.
The sanctuary also made an appeal to all: “We desperately need your help to raise emergency funds for his vet care.”
